This proper c. 1895 timepiece is by Elgin, serial number 5737979. It is grade 27, model 2, and variation B.W. Raymond. It is size 18s, spins on 17 jewels, and is railroad grade. It is adjusted for position, temperature, and isochronism. The crystal is pristine. The double-sunk dial has a hairline crack across its center (see detail). Its case bears the minor dents and dings shown. Benjamin W. Raymond was one of the original founders of the Elgin National Watch Company. This watch is in good working order and weighs 112.3 grams.
