Lot Details
Item is from Greece and crafted using the traditional "lost wax" technique. This museum reproduction is based on the Minoan era 2600 BCE to 1100 BCE. This statue recounts the rescue of the poet Arion by a dolphin, who carried him to safety from the perilous waters near Cape Taenarum. At this very cape stood a temple dedicated to Poseidon, with a statue immortalizing Arion's miraculous journey astride his aquatic savior.
