Colonel James Drake was born at the homestead in Pittsfield NH on June 29, 1805.  

He eventually moved to the village and became president of the Pittsfield National Bank.  He held this position until his passing in 1870.

He figured prominently in publice affairs, served as Selectman and in other town offices, he was also a member of the State Senate.  In politics he supported the Democratic party and identified with the state militia, in which he served as coonel of the eighteenth Regiment.
