Kronos is the son of Ouranos and Gaea, the youngest of the Titans. Cronos overthrew his father, with the help of his mother, and became the supreme ruler of the universe. He then married Rhea, his sister, who gave birth to the great Gods. To prevent the reoccurrence of his father’s fate, he swallowed each of his children as they were born. However, when his last son, Zeus, was born, Rhea hid the infant on the island of Crete, and instead gave Kronos a stone wrapped in swaddling clothes. When Zeus became old enough, he challenged his father and forced him to vomit up his siblings Poseidon, Hades, Demeter, Hera, and Hestia. The Cyclops, who were freed by Zeus, fashioned the famous thunderbolts and lightning for Zeus as a sign of gratitude. These weapons were instrumental in the defeat of the Titans (in a battle known as the Titanomachy) by Zeus and his siblings. This sculpture was cast using the Lost Wax Method in a brown patina and mounted on a marble base. Bronze Dimensions with Marble Base: Height 12 X Width 7 inches. Weight: 10 LBS.
Size: 7x7x12
