Born on January 14, 1836 in Grenoble, France, he went on to study at the École des Beaux-Arts and would copy Old Masters paintings at the Louvre. Fantin-Latour’s works are in the collections of the Art Institute of Chicago, the Hermitage Museum in St. Petersburg, the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, the Musée d’Orsay in Paris, the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam, and the Tate Gallery in London, among others. He died on August 25, 1904 in Buré, France.
