Dutch Master Painting of a Classic Still Life
Item has only been displayed in a gallery setting and is in excellent condition. Original oil painting by internationally renowned Dutch artist Cornelis Le Mair. Painting measures 31 x 26 inches unframed and includes a custom built frame. Framed dimensions are approximately 40 x 35 inches. Cornelis Le Mair was born in Eindhoven, The Netherlands, in 1944. As be submersed himself in art at an early age, he found himself drawn to works by Rembrandt and other Dutch masters. He begn academic art training in The Netherlands at 18, and then moved on to the Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp, Belgium which awarded him placement in a high institute for further art training. he returned to Eindhoven in 1970. When looking at this painting, the viewer can tell Le Mair works in three specific schools of art: the Renaissance, the Romantic, and the Modern. He incorporates portrait painting as well as elements of Dutch still life tradition. Le Mair works in elaborate lighting and shadowing, as did the Old Masters, but infuses his own style through the use of wide brushstrokes. Le Mair has several books published on his works. His triptych titled The Allegory on the Transitoriness of Beauty was exhibited at the Kempeland Museum in Eindhoven (1995), the Castle of Zeist (1997), and the Westfries Museum (1999), and has been appraised for $2.5 million. Le Mair continues working in the arts, perfecting his craft in painting, drawing, writing, sculpture, interior design and architecture- like a true Renaissance man.
