350 YEAR OLD ANTIQUE SILVER SUKHOTHAI PERIOD THAI BUDDHA STATUE. A HAND CARVED WOODEN STATUE OF BUDDHA. THAT IS COVERED IN SHEETS OF PURE SILVER AND HAMMERED  INTO A BEAUTIFUL AND INTRICATE DESIGN.  THIS PIECE WAS PART OF AN ESTATE FROM A COLLECTOR AND MUSEUM CURATOR OF ASIAN ANTIQUES IN NORTHERN THAILAND. THE  STATUE WAS RECOVERED FROM THE RUINS OF A COLLAPSED STUPA IN CHIANG MAI, THAILAND. A STUPA IS A VERY TALL CONE SHAPED RELIGIOUS MONUMENT. IT IS FILLED WITH THE ASHES OF SPIRITUALLY ENLIGHTENED  MONKS, AND CONSECRATED (BLESSED) AMULETS AND SMALL STATUES.  BUDDHISTS BELIEVE THIS IS A POWERFUL STATUE OFFERING PROTECTION AND GOOD FORTUNE AS IT WAS BURIED WITH OTHER BLESSED RELICS.THIS STATUE IS APPROXIMATELY 350 YEAR OLD.  CIRCA MID-LATE 1700.
