This item is a numbered Giclee. Unframed. José Miguel Román Francés was born on January 2, 1950 in Alcoy, Alicante (Spain). At the age of fourteen he began to paint in the workshop of Gaspar Francés Rico. Rico became more of a friend than a teacher, and his work influenced Francés’ artistic formation. Román Francés achieves an overall effect of harmony, peace, and great beauty with his superb draftsmanship.  Each piece is filled with the feeling of light that he manages to reflect in everything he paints.  His paintings are employed lavishly, with dense buildups in the floral groupings and landscapes surrounding the female figures and children, which are the core and focus from which all else radiates. Francés' work reflects his love for nature and his Spanish heritage, frequently depicting the female figure with traditional silk shawls that radiate with the colors and floral patterns of his native country. His impressionistic brushstroke never lets him get too closely bound up in his encounters with the female figure; yet, he depicts her in minute details when appropriate. The colors he uses are perfectly balanced and controlled within their light-giving power. In 1965 he exhibited his first painting in the Salon de Otoño in Alcoy. The following year he moved to Madrid, where he remained for five years experiencing the culture of this region. In 1971 he returned to Alcoy, where he has lived ever since. In 1976 he presented his first individual exhibition in Catalonia, beginning an extensive series of exhibitions. His work can be found in many important public and private collections in over 30 countries, including the United States, France, Italy, Spain, Germany, Great Britain, the United Arab Emirates, Japan, Mexico and Canada. He has had more than 60 personal exhibitions and had participated in many collective ones. His work has been featured in several major cities of his native Spain, as well as in many prestigious galleries outside of Spain - Lisbon, Brussels, Mexico City, Miami, New York, and Santa Fe, just to name a few. Several books have been published about the life and work of the artist. In one of them, titled “Román Francés – Master of Pictorial Light”, Josep Cadena, journalist, chief-editor and art critic, analyzed the artist’s work: “Painting the way Román Francés paints is a quest for connecting with something of interest – a landscape, a female figure, a flower arrangement – and achieving a kind of transcendence of what is sought for expression in accordance with its natural way of being.” Román Francés’ paintings are also featured in other publications; his widespread recognition earned him the honor to commission paint several large historical illustrations in a book about Ethiopia which was published in several countries.

This painting is in excellent condition, only shown in a gallery. Cortes is a Spanish artist born in Valencia in 1963. He began law studies in his hometown, which he abandoned to devote himself exclusively to the Fine Arts. Self-taught landscaper, he initially came to the painting for the desire to capture with his hands the innumerable natural beauties of the Spanish east along its geography and more specifically the urban landscapes of Valencia, the lagoon and its beaches. Tireless traveler, over the years he has been collecting and saving in his retina images of all the cities he has visited such as Paris, Italy, Amsterdam, Casablanca, Istanbul, etc... to later incorporate them in a very personal and free way to his paintings in oil, generically titled "Broken Landscapes" by the pictorial technique used, mainly the spatula. It has an impressionist style, with a range of very neutral and elegant colors that create an atmosphere in his intimate paintings. He has participated in collective and private exhibitions, obtaining great admiration for the way he handles oil, a favorite material and that very few landscape designers manage to master with the simplicity of which he shows. Much of his work is in private collections in the US where their exhibitions and various works on decoration projects have proliferated.

Item has only been displayed in gallery condition and is in excellent condition. Oil on canvas. Josep Borell was born in Alcoy (Alicante) on January 25th, 1969. He was born into a family without a traditional artistic background, although he always had the support of his parents and older sister. From a young age he showed a great passion for illustration and the comic world, comics being the reason why he started as a draftsman and cartoonist. It was not strange, during his school years, that the teacher caught Josep in the middle of class drawing in his notebook. Once he finished Elementary School, he started attending the Arts and Crafts School in his hometown where he studied technical drawing from 1984 to 1988. During this period he combined studies with small jobs in textile design, illustration and caricatures. From 1988 to 1989, he was called to serve in the military. At the end of this period he felt the need to continue with his education, but focused on what motivated him the most “The Portrait”. He then went to the Fine Arts School of Alcoy where he did not stay longer than three months, since the education he was receiving there did not match his expectations and interests. After that, he registered at the Superior School of Saint Carlos of Valencia, but soon he started to feel a deep disaffection with the academic system, he did not hesitate to express his disagreements with the faculty, which lead him to quit some months later. Borrell’s rebelling against the artistic education he so desired turned him to become a nonconformist artist who struggled to achieve his goals his own way. Upon his return to Alcoy he started taking classes at the Academy-Studio of the artist Paco Egea, where Josep finally felt comfortable with what he did. It was here where he acquired a solid base on drawing. This was a very busy period for the artist, since he combined his studies in the academy with a part-time job in a furniture store, in addition to his night sessions painting the first commissions he had of pastel portraits. He felt such a passion for painting that he would spend weekends on the beach, painting portraits, improving his technique and trying to capture the features of people with the fewest strokes possible. It was this last activity which provided Borrell with a masterful skill in the portrait art. Once he mastered drawing, he began developing his oil technique, which he learned to manage with the help of different artists in their studios. It did not take long for him to master the practice, since he had a very solid formation to lean on. In 1997, given that his work as a portrait artist allowed him to have economical independence, he settled down and married his wife Aranza.

Fernando Ibañez Alcaraz was born in Alcoy, Alicante (Spain) in 1969.  Growing up with an interest for the arts, Alcaraz began his studies at the Escuela de Artes y Oficios in Alcoy at the age of 15.  For the next six years, and with the help from his mentor, Alcaraz continued to develop his artistic techniques and drawing abilities.  Throughout these years Alcaraz developed skills and interests in pastels, watercolors and pencil drawings, which has increased his flexibility as an artist.  Today, he chooses to focus his career and passions in oil painting. Alcaraz is an artist whose talents provide him to work in various styles and mediums.  His drawing skills provide him with the roots necessary to paint portraits of figures and animals, still lifes of fruit and flowers, or landscapes from nature’s palette to his beach, Spanish village, and simple roses that grow in his garden.  Such diverse talents are found in few artists and have allowed his artistic work to be discovered not only in Spain, but other countries in Europe, and now the Americas.   Alcaraz has participated in several collective and individual exhibitions throughout his career along with winning several awards for his inspiring canvases.  In 1985, he placed second in the IV Concurso de Careles de Fiestas de Moros y Cristianos in Ibi, Alicante; he exhibited his work at the Encuentro Mundial for the Fraternidad Hermana, in the Palace for Exhibitions and Congress of Granada in July 1992; in October 1992, he exhibited his work in a collective exposition in the Sala de Arte EMECE of Alcoy; in 1994, he participated in a collective exhibition at the Casa de la Cultura of Sollana in Valencia; and in 1996, Alcaraz participated in the Sala de Arte EMECE of Alcoy’s Grand Collection of Contemporary Teachers of Realism.  His realistic and broad artistic skills allows him to masterfully produce detailed drawings, paintings of realistic still life and figurative studies of soft, relaxing Spanish beach and town scenes.  His application of paint layers and texture create depth, light and atmosphere, drawing the spectator into the tranquility of his subjects.

This painting is in excellent condition and has only been shown in a gallery.  Federico López Córcoles was born in the Alicante region of Spain in 1970. This area is well-known for its artistic tradition, producing world renowned skilled artists. He studied drawing and painting at the Escuela Permanente de Adultos (EPA) San Carlos from 1995 to 2001 in Ontinyent, a Valencian community in Spain. At this time, he also got involved in working in  the Association of Art 92 in Bocairent, another Valencian municipality, as well as in the Association “Font d’Art” in Ontinyent. By participating in these associations, López was able to exhibit his works to a broader audience in multiple group exhibitions  from 1995 to 2012 around the Valencia region. Also, the exposure to many painters in the Valencian area through these associations and exhibitions allowed him to experiment with his style and developed his artistic vision into what we see today. López utilizes bold brushstrokes and a bright color palette in order to convey the dimensionality and tonality of his subject. It is the variant of bright colors, not hues or tones, that add depth to his works. Color and the linework of his brushstrokes work together to form an image, composed with decisiveness and accuracy. He continues to work on his art and exhibit in Spain today.
