This painting is in excellent condition and has only been shown in a gallery setting. Antoni Durà held his first solo art exhibition in 1973. Since then he has exhibited his paintings in major Spanish cities as well as in France, Germany and Italy. As well as being a figurative painter he is a Professor of Art. He acted as cultural adviser and Director of the Office of Cultural Policy of the City of Gandia, Valencia. Passionate about culture and a lover of his native city, he founded and directed the Popular University of Gandia – an institution created to promote education – and was the creator of established events such as the ‘Cine Pot’ dedicated to screening historical and popular film. In simplistic terms, Antoni Dura's works focus on artist materials developed over an abstracted background. In the process of making something look gritty and mundane he highlights the beauty of his craft. The mix of perspectives, dimension, texture, styles (realism ans abstraction) and colors all culminate in the creation of a painting full of juxtapositions and conceptual interest. His paintings, in many ways, celebrate the act of "making art." Education Bachelor of Fine Arts from San Carlos de Valencia. Director at the Popular de Gandia University from 1984-1987. Item has only been displayed in a gallery setting and is in excellent condition. Original oil painting by internationally renowned Dutch artist Cornelis Le Mair. Painting measures 31 x 26 inches unframed and includes a custom built frame. Framed dimensions are approximately 40 x 35 inches. Cornelis Le Mair was born in Eindhoven, The Netherlands, in 1944. As be submersed himself in art at an early age, he found himself drawn to works by Rembrandt and other Dutch masters. He begn academic art training in The Netherlands at 18, and then moved on to the Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp, Belgium which awarded him placement in a high institute for further art training. he returned to Eindhoven in 1970. When looking at this painting, the viewer can tell Le Mair works in three specific schools of art: the Renaissance, the Romantic, and the Modern. He incorporates portrait painting as well as elements of Dutch still life tradition. Le Mair works in elaborate lighting and shadowing, as did the Old Masters, but infuses his own style through the use of wide brushstrokes. Le Mair has several books published on his works. His triptych titled The Allegory on the Transitoriness of Beauty was exhibited at the Kempeland Museum in Eindhoven (1995), the Castle of Zeist (1997), and the Westfries Museum (1999), and has been appraised for $2.5 million. Le Mair continues working in the arts, perfecting his craft in painting, drawing, writing, sculpture, interior design and architecture- like a true Renaissance man.

The subject is a poetic mixture of elements drawn from the Mexican folk imagination and others from the natural environment of that country displayed in a quilt and presented on a table against a blue backdrop.   This quilt is later featured in a number of Alvar original paintings.  A female figure is at the head of the table, protectively holding a slice of watermelon in her hands as a symbol of the traditional food.  Across the bottom, there are a number of allegorical drawings and watercolors relating to the theme of the work.  This allegorical stripe is hand-watercolored by the artist.  This piece features beautiful embossing details as well.   More about Alvar: Alvar Suñol Munoz-Ramos, commonly known as Alvar, was born in 1935 in Montgat, Spain, a Catalan fishing village on the Mediterranean coast near Barcelona.  By the age of 17, he was accepted into the Escuela Superior de Bellas Artes de San Jorge in Barcelona.  In 1960, he moved to Paris and exhibited with other major Spanish artists including Picasso, Miró, and Dalí.   Today, Alvar is recognized on an international platform for his exploration of the psychological and historical complexities of art-making and creation in relation to one’s environment and experiences.  The examination of both interiors and exterior spaces place a significant role in all of Alvar’s works.  Alvar strengthens his artistic vision through the use of various mediums including oil paintings, lithographs, watercolors, drawings, bronzes, and ceramic bas relief sculptures.  His works can be found in the permanent collection of over fourteen museums worldwide and he has several public commissions around the world, including his most recent bronze sculpture created in honor of Catalan cellist Pablo Casals that is located in Paris, France.  Additionally, Alvar has had three consecutive retrospectives since 2014. Next to the pianist there appears a figure eluding to George Sand who is holding laurel leaves symbolizing the inspiration of the artist whose portrait (extracted from a portrait of Chopin by the French painter Delacroix) appears in the lithograph. Being a nocturne, the chromatic range in the work consists predominately of blue tones, dominated by the brilliance of the lunar light in an atmosphere of seclusion and intimacy.
