Music Lover Painting Martina Yeon Rose on a Piano
Item has on been displayed in gallery setting and is in excellent condition. Oil on canvas.
Martina Yeon, born in 1962, has lived in her adopted country Spain since 1991. Starting to paint as a child, Yeon’s official training in the art began at the age of 13. This training carried her through middle and high school where she discovered her love for still lifes. After her early training she attended the Korea University from 1978 – 1984 where she earned qualifications to become a fine arts teacher, thus enhancing her passion for painting. During this time she was selected to participate in several different collective painting exhibitions in Korea. From 1986 – 1989, Yeon continued to progress her painting abilities by studying with a Korean master of classic Dutch still life painting. After settling with her family in Spain, she gained love and appreciation for the Spanish masters and began to model her paintings after the works of Goya and Velazquez. Following her move to Spain, she began to study the chromatics of paint and drawing, which allowed her to begin painting in a more contemporary realistic manner. Yeon paints in oils on canvas or on boards. In order to create the smooth surface her pieces are known for, she primes each canvas at least nine times before beginning to paint. This procedure is important to allow for beautiful details to come to life and to leave an exquisite finish. Martina Yeon states about her work, “my art begins with an objective gaze of nature. That is, to paint nature as it is, without subjectivity. The objective gaze that is shared with almost everybody makes people see a flower like a flower, a vase like a vase. That’s the most important part of my art. For that reason, I try to represent nature with the least interpretation as possible, trying to make it feel real. I like to seal in a little part of the nature inside a painting carefully balanced in color, shape and texture. In order to achieve this goal, I put emphasis in details using a meticulous realism style."
