Lot Details

Simply gorgeous handmade Tabriz design Peshawar rug. Size 6 x 8.10 feet, made of 100% baby lamb’s wool pile on cotton foundation, all natural vegetable dye, a beautiful allover detailed floral pattern (with elegant, long and drawn out curvilinear tendrils) set upon a beige background; contrasted beautifully with a light blue detailed intricate floral trim. A lot of time and attention went into making this fine quality hand woven rug, as can be seen by the tight, small knots, as well as the delicate design. About Peshawar rugs: Peshawar rugs, from the historic khanate or administrative district of Afghanistan produced many highly decorative antique rugs that have a formality and stylistic complexity that is found in few rugs from the Caucasus. The depth of colors, the complexity of the composition and the phenomenal patterns featured in Peshawar rugs set them apart from those produced in other regions of the Caucasus. Peshawar, which was part of the Persian Empire, was populated by Azeri Turks and some Armenians, who were expert dyers and weavers. The format is generally long and narrow, which would have been preferred by consumers in the Caucasus.
