This handome c. 1900 timepiece by Elgin is serial number 8887751. it marks the end of an era and the beginning of another. Its adjusted G.M. Wheeler movement is grade 148, model 5, and has 17 jewels. George Montague Wheeler, a founder oF Elgin, was an American pioneering explorer and cartographer, leader of the Wheeler Survey, one of the major surveys of the western United States in the late nineteenth century. Only a slightly chipped crystal (photo) keeps it from excellent condition. it is stem-wind and set, and Its Silverode case sports a vivid train motif. This size 18s watch is in good working condition and weighs 161.4 grams.
