40 Unsearched Silver War Nickels. Stock Photo. This bag at least 3 uncs seen. There was a severe shortage of copper as it had many wartime uses. Som much so that it was twice as expensive as silver at the time. Silver was plentiful and not needed as much in the war effort. So they used silver instead from 42 until 45 when the war ended
