It not only features a vivid orange hue similar to Mexican fire opals, but also lovely interior characteristics that you don't regularly see in Mexican fire opals. First of all, it has a lovely feather on one side that produces vibrant flashing due to natural crazing that is common in these opals. Then it has very interesting frosted inclusions that are suspended in the opal crystal, with an orange cloud on the side, and a frosty translucent white along the bottom giving it a smoldering quality. And it has fantastic size! Weighing 8.73 carats, it would already be considered a large gem. But, since opals have less density than other gemstones, their size to weight ratio is amplified, so your 8.73 carats translates to a whopping 16.5mm x 10mm x 8.7mm.
